3. Consumables will quietly consume your budget. A $4,500 TransSteel 2200 generates $800–1,500 a year in contact tips, liners, nozzles, and gas losses in a two-shift operation. Factor that into total cost of ownership. The cheapest welder to buy is rarely the cheapest welder to run.
And about that vendor who tried to hand me a handwritten invoice for a $6,000 order—I knew I should've verified invoicing before ordering, but I figured it would be fine. That was the one time it wasn't. Finance rejected the expense, and I ate the cost. A lesson learned the hard way.
Bottom line: Fronius makes genuinely excellent equipment. But "excellent" only matters if the application fits. Nail down your duty cycle, your materials, and your local support situation first. Then let the brand name follow.
