At the amperage needed for 8mm to 12mm plate, that number can drop to 20%—roughly two minutes of welding for every eight minutes of enforced cooling. That's the overheat cut-out that kills you at hour six of a rush job. Better machines like the Fronius TransSteel series publish duty-cycle curves that hold up at the currents real jobs demand. That boring spec sheet detail is exactly what matters when a weld inspector shows up at 8 AM and yesterday's production target still isn't met.

But when geometry repeats and the deadline is unreasonable, a robot changes the game. We tendered a component job requiring 80 identical brackets in five days. Two skilled welders working flat out could make seven days. I learned this the hard way. A client went budget on two welding machines for a structural job that included radiography. The qualification coupon passed. But out on the production floor, with an average welder, a long extension cable, and the usual voltage drop, the lack-of-fusion rejects hit seven out of twelve joints. The rework—cutting, re-grooving, re-welding, re-testing—cost over S$4,000 and two full working days.
The numbers had said the budget option made sense. My gut said the duty cycle spec was too good to be true. It was. Looking back, I should have insisted on a proper industrial machine from the start, even at 40% more cost. Instead I watched that shop eat a much bigger bill. - Ask about service turnaround. A machine that fails but gets repaired in three days is worth more than one that fails half as often but sits at a depot for three weeks waiting for an imported board. In an emergency, parts availability is insurance.

When you shouldn't buy a Fronius
I'll be straight with you: not every purchase justifies a premium brand. If the machine is for light maintenance, occasional repair, or decorative stainless railing with no code inspection, a good mid-range unit will do the job. I've recommended budget machines more than once and I'll do it again.
A Fronius also won't fix a broken process. If the welder isn't qualified to ISO 9606-1 for the process and position, or if the joint is designed so nobody can physically reach the weld, all you've done is buy a more expensive machine to fail on the same mistakes. The machine is one link in the chain, not the chain itself.
The worst emergency I ever handled couldn't be solved by any power source on the market. The project schedule had never allowed enough time to do the welds properly, and we paid in exactly the currency that matters: time and rework.
